I see restorations of arthropleura fly around the internet sometimes with “FUUUUCK THAT!!! ALL ABOARD THE NOPE TRAIN!!!” and just feel it’s worth pointing out that even today’s lighter, tinier millipedes move at a turtle-like pace and this one would have had to be even more easygoing due to its weight. It likely couldn’t have even lifted its front off the ground without something to prop up on, and the only thing we’ve ever found in its fossilized gut is plant pollen.

A single modern rat would have been able to kill a full grown Arthropleura by sitting on top of it and chewing a hole in its exoskeleton. It would have no defense against that whatsoever and that is in fact how even the smallest rodents can decimate populations of the modern coconut crab or giant weta.

Having an arthropleura in your house would probably be like having a very long and sleepy roomba.

okay so they did this study where they put octopi on ecstasy and found that just like in humans the drug made the brain release more serotonin and facilitated social behavior and the conclusion was that this means that since our last common ancestor was 500 million years ago our brains have been using serotonin to make us happy and sociable for at least 500 million years and my fucking question is if my brain has had 500 million years to evolve this serotonin shit why is it so bad at releasing it on its own still

Just on the first question though, how would eating Bulbasaur fruit be really any different to like eating an egg?

TIL that despite being studied since its discovery in 1906, scientists have yet to rule out a germ origin for Alzheimer’s disease. The infectious hypothesis could explain why neurosurgeons are twice and a half more likely to die from it than the general population.
